THE TRUTH MOST WON'T SAY OUT LOUD

When I posted a 60-second video explaining why I'm pursuing a Master's in Skin Biology despite already being a licensed esthetician, the response wasn't just engagement.

It was confession.

5,000 likes. 24.2K views. 328 comments. 1,393 saves.

But here's what those numbers actually mean:

1,191 estheticians saved that video because they're searching for a pathway that doesn't exist.

They're not looking for another weekend certification. They're not looking for a $3,000 "advanced training" with no real academic foundation.

They're looking for legitimate clinical skin science education, the kind that bridges the gap between surface-level esthetics training and actual dermatological intelligence.

One comment stopped me cold:

"YES! This is exactly why our field needs a real second tier. We're sent out with surface-level education, then expected to run businesses AND somehow self-fund thousands in advanced training just to understand barrier function, pathology, and true skin health. There should be a structured pathway to go deeper — something between esthetics and nursing — where those who want clinical, dermatology-level knowledge can access it. Our industry would be stronger, safer, and more respected if it did."

She's right.

The aesthetics industry has an education crisis. 

We train professionals to follow protocols, memorize ingredient lists, and execute treatment steps.

But we don't teach:

• Melanogenesis pathways
• Inflammatory cascades
• Barrier lipid biochemistry
• Genetic factors influencing skin aging and pigmentation disorders
• dermatologic pathology and clinical assessment at a research level.

Then we expect estheticians to formulate products, treat complex skin conditions, build credible businesses, and communicate intelligently with dermatologists and medical professionals.

All while operating from a knowledge base that was never designed to go that deep.

Here's what I realized: 

If I'm going to formulate responsibly for melanated skin, I can't rely on surface knowledge.

If I'm going to influence this industry long-term, I need to sit at the intersection of beauty and dermatology, not just as a brand founder, but as someone educated beyond what my esthetics license could afford me.

So on June 15th, I'm starting a 4-week intensive graduate course: Cutaneous Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Genetics at the School of Medicine.
